Welcome to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books! Since Valentine’s Day is next week, I thought I would share the first line of a very fun novella that will be releasing that day: The Cupcake Dilemma by Jennifer Rodewald. My review will be posted on Monday, but just take my word for it. If you only read one Valentine’s Day story, make this one it!
And since the first line is actually included in the book’s description, I’m giving you a little bonus today…
~ About the Book ~
My name is Kirstin Hill. I’m a simple girl trying to figure out life in a small town. There are a few things you should know about me before we begin. I grew up in the city. I’m a teacher, a first-year teacher (some of you understand that significance). And finally, when it comes to cooking, I’m a disaster. Maybe none of those things seem story worthy, but trust me—I have a story. I call it The Cupcake Dilemma, and it literally changed my life. How? I’m glad you asked.
It all started with an extra assignment delegated to me at school right before Valentine’s Day… But before we get too far, let me begin by stating this clearly. I was voluntold.
~ First Lines ~
Let me begin by stating this clearly. I was voluntold.
This is a very important point. I didn’t go hunting for the baker’s attention, even if his dark hair and eyes had beckoned me for a second look the first time I’d ever gone into the Sweet Tooth.
Okay, I looked more than twice.
Have you ever been voluntold? 😜
I’d love it if you’d share the first line of whatever you’re currently reading in the comments. And don’t forget, you can find out what other bloggers are sharing for First Line Friday by going over to Hoarding Books blog and finding all the links. If you’ve got your own blog, why not join in and add your link over there. 🙂
Great first line! And I love the cover, Jennifer. Congrats on the new release!

Great, great line! I’m featuring A Passionate Hope by Jill Eileen Smith over on my blog. Here I’ll share from Keturah by Lisa T. Bergren. “In the hopes that at least one would get through, their father had sent three copies of his last letter from the West Indies; as it happened, his daughters received them all.”

I’m looking forward to reading Keturah soon. 🙂

I’m featuring “The Saturday Night Supper Club” by Carla Laureano on the blog today, but my first line here will be the book I’m currently reading, “Across the Blue” by Carrie Turansky.

Happy reading and have a wonderful weekend!

I’m going to share the first line from Part 1 Chapter 1 of Jocelyn Green’s “A Refuge Assured”
She should be used to this by now, the way skin exposed to cold eventually lost feeling.

I don’t think so. Country music isn’t exactly my forte… Pun intended! 😄

I love the new word “voluntold.” I’ve been voluntold before. 🙂 On my blog, I’m featuring Wilted Dandelions by Catherine Ulrich Brakefield. Here I will share the first line of the book I’m currently reading, Rumors and Promises by Kathleen Rouser. Stone Creek, Michigan, 1900. “Sophia Bidershem jerked awake as the train whistle blew.” I wish you a wonderful weekend.

I have got to get this book!!!!
Over on my blog, I am featuring Heather B. Moore’s novel, Worth the Risk. I am very excited to read that book. It sounds like it will be a lot of fun.
Here, I will post from the novel I am currently reading, A Refuge Assured by Jocelyn Green. It is an AMAZING story that I am enjoying wholeheartedly. I am just starting chapter 29, so I will share the first two lines from this chapter.
Asylum, Pennsylvania
July 1795
Still damp with morning’s dew, the cool earth soiled Vivienne’s apron as she knelt in her garden, tugging weeds from between iris and yarrow. Geese soared overhead, soft brown chevrons against a sky of robin’s-egg blue.

Volumtol is a new word for me. I am curious what it is? I like the cover. I will have checked my books to see if I have a book that fits the Valentine theme. I am featuring one of my favorite author’s sentient cat tales about Joe Grey and his friends.

Voluntold is when you’re ‘volunteered’ by someone, but don’t actually have a say in whether you do it!

I’ve been “voluntold” a couple of times recently. Not good. I’ve got this on my to-read list!
I’ve got the first line from The Saturday Night Supper club up on my blog, and I’m currently reading another great contemporary romance – Paper Hearts by Courtney Walsh. She’s one of my new favourite authors. Here’s the first line:
“I can’t believe she did this to me again.” Abigail Pressman stared at the computer screen in disbelief.

Oooh I love these lines a little sassy and with humor. Plus the cover is so cute! My first lines: “Tell me a story.” Grandma smiled through a mess of wrinkles and brushed a lock of wavy blonde hair off my brow. “Another? Three books weren’t enough?” “Not a book story. One of your stories.” happy Saturday by now 😉
