First Line Friday – 31 August 2018 – Shadow Sister (Katherine Scott Jones)

first-line-fridays31

Welcome to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books! Can you believe it’s the last day of August?

I’ve just finished reading Katherine Scott Jones’s novel Shadow Sister, a touching and emotional story about sisters and families, shadows and light. My review will be up next week, but for now, I’m giving you a peek at the first line.

~ About the Book ~

When a vintner’s daughter travels to Bolivia to scatter her estranged sister’s ashes, she unravels secrets that test her devotion to home and make her question whether truth is worth the cost of forgiveness. Bittersweet and bold, Shadow Sister explores the mysteries of the human heart and the bond of unquenchable love.

PROLOGUE

“Jenna—” Jonas stands from the scuffed table in the smoky hotel restaurant. “Baby, it’s time.”

You might need a tissue or two, but it’s worth it. 🙂

I’d love it if you’d share the first line of whatever you’re currently reading in the comments. And don’t forget, you can find out what other bloggers are sharing for First Line Friday by going over to Hoarding Books blog and finding all the links. If you’ve got your own blog, why not join in and add your link over there. 🙂

Bolivia? I don’t think I’ve ever read a novel set there. How intriguing!

I’m sharing the first line from Justice by Emily Conrad on my blog today. It was an unexpected read – the cover gave me the impression it was a historical romance, but it was most definitely a contemporary.

  4. Happy Friday!😊

My first lines come from a book I will be reading shortly, Unleashed by Donna Kauffman.

Emma Lafferty’s life had gone to the dogs. Literally. And to the cats. And the parakeets, goldfish, hamsters, even the occasional potbelly pig. What it and her fledgling pet-sitting service hadn’t gone to was her bank account. Not enough, anyway.

Have a great weekend and happy reading!😊📚💖

Happy Friday! I shared a different one over on my blog, but I’m also reading Silence the Girls by Pat Barker that takes place in ancient Troy.

“Great Achilles. Brilliant Achilles, shining Achilles . . . How the epithets pile up.”

    Happy reading!

I’m sharing the first line of “A Worthy Rebel” on my blog today. I’ll share the first line of my current read, Sarah Loudin Thomas’s “A Shot at Love,” here: “Fleeta hunkered low, careful not to rattle the crisp fallen leaves all around her.”

Over on my blog, I’m sharing the first line from Lynnette Bonner’s High Desert Haven. Here, I’ll share one of my favorite lines from Crossed Out by Christina Coryell (her contribution to the Once Upon A Laugh novella collection):

Kids at yard sales were nearly impossible to corral. Grandmas watching kids at yard sales were like wild mustangs, throwing caution and endless quarters to the wind.

  8. It does sound interesting. I’m not posting a First Line Friday this week because I simply don’t have time. I just became a great-aunt yesterday and am entertaining family from out of time. Some things are simply more important than reading. This is one of them. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
